Dave, JS and Randy's trike ready for take off from Holbrook Airport. JS didn't fly with us on this trip. Check out Randy's trike in the other shot. I think that is why he is called "Rocket Man"... unless it's because of his back firing issue... :-)

It's pretty sparse out in Holbrook. But once you get in the air, you really can appreciate the barren beauty of the Desert.

Here are some shots of Randy zooming by in his rocket ship double surface 582 twin banger trike. I like to say "a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link"... :-)

We found a quiet dirt road to land and take a quick pit stop.

I always like to carry about 2-3 gallons of water in my survival bag. It's a heavy beast to lug around but the thought of being stuck out here with no water is pretty horrendous. I also have 6 tins of sardines as well (they have expiry date of 2013!!). For good measure I also have a tooth brush and toothpaste :-) The other shot is Dave sharing his salty nuts with us all (sadly, all of us have this sick sense of humour :-)

After a weekend of flying, there is nothing like sitting back in JS's hanger and sharing modest un-exaggerated stories of our adventures ;-)

Dave Dixon states: By the way Emu fans, that's not my hangar. It's the public hangar. JS and I named it "the birds nest" because 1/2 of all the birds in Holbrook were hatched there. They are in the middle of cleaning out the side storage rooms and thankfully piled all the junk in the middle of the floor in the main hangar. What can you expect from prison labor? No really, they get free labor from the inmates from the prison in Winslow. I've met some real colorful characters from there.Damien,I hope one day you'll get some these guys on video. They're alot like the guys from Slab city. September 1, 2008, 1:05 am
Dave Dixon states: Dont believe Damiens' comments about my side job. We had a great time as usual though we missed John Cortesy. Another great video Damien...See you soon my friend. September 1, 2008, 12:28 am
