Trike Camera Setup

Play Video - Windows Format 3:33 minutes (37 Meg)

WARNING - adding a camera onto your wing changes the flight characterstics of it, consult with the manufacturer before attempting this.

Note 1 - I power the 2 bullet cameras via the 12 Volt battery on my trike - I fuse this incase of a short circuit.

Note 2 - When the camera was on the washout strut, I didn't need to balance the wing. With the leading edge extender and extra parts I find the wing tips to this side on the ground. I balanced it by using a sausage of ball bearings along the cross bar of the opposing side.

Control Bar Camera - I expanded on an idea from Jeff Gilkey how he mounted a video camera to his control bar.

Hall Meter Clamps - Life would not be as good without these!
RCA Switch Box - a bit bulky for the job, you could probably find a more compact switch box in the Internet.
Ram Mount for Wing Tip - Got to love these mounts !!!!
Ram Mount for Control Bar
Sony TRV-950 Video Camera review - Sony doesn't make this camera anymore, its been my work horse for a few years and is a top notch digital camera!

Tom states: Is the LANC cable (did I spell that right?) a Sony accessory to your camcorder ? Will it control any Sony camcorder ? What brand of bullet-camera do you use? Can you send me some links for these items ? I'm planning on rigging my trike much the same as yours, but also adding a small Sony HD camera , forward of the instrument cluster. Damien states: Mark, I use 480 scan lines, even better are the 560, I would suggest not to buy the 380, too little resolution. It is worth spending the extra few dollars. July 10, 2006, 8:15 pm
Mark Poliak states: Damien,
Clever way of describing (showing) your setup. As always, excellent job and thanks for sharing. I am looking at some 380 line lipstick cameras at [link] so was wondering what resolution or lines your lipstick cameras were? July 10, 2006, 7:31 pm
